How to deal with bumps or sprains? Acute injuries, acute attacks of chronic injuries and chronic injuries are common injuries. Acute injuries are often caused by sudden situations such as sprain of ankle, knee twisting, muscle strain and bump. It usually causes immediate pain and swelling which can be eased and narcotized by instant ice compress. Acute attacks of chronic injuries, such as pain, swelling and fever caused by exercise training or postoperative recovery can be also relieved by ice compress. Chronic injuries usually have no sudden trauma, which are often caused by repeated strain, such as strain of lumbar muscle and frozen shoulder, which can be eased by hot compress.

What should we pay attention to when icing? First, mind the time. You should conduct ice compress every 2 to 3 hours. If the swelling, pain or fever is very severe, ice every 1 to 2 hours. Each time should be controlled in 15 to 20 minutes. Remember that do not ice for too long. Please notice that do not rub within 2-3 days or a week after injury. Second, where to apply the ice compress? Sprain of ankle, for example, should be eased by icing the most obvious parts of the pain, swelling or fever and then slowly moving to the entire joint. Third, the ice pack should be fully applied to the skin. Fourth, to prevent frostbite, protective measures should be taken. Fifth, to prevent contamination of the wound, , it is necessary to remove the frost before using silicone ice pack or wipe the water spilled out before taking ice-water mixture method.
